HUDSON, MA. August 17, 2020The Worcester Business Journal (WBJ), today, named Hudson’s Earth & Aerial Yoga Studio co-founder Lora Markova among its 2020 Class of 40 Under Forty—a list of the most innovative business leaders and entrepreneurs who are making a difference across the MetroWest region.

WBJ recognized Markova for her multi-industry contributions to the local business community that include, most recently, opening the area’s only aerial yoga studio, Earth & Aerial Yoga (EAY). The studio, which Markova founded with her business partner and co-owner, Katharine Scalora, has garnered a large and loyal following since it opened in May 2019. The company moved into its new permanent multi-purpose space in February 2020, where it offers aerial yoga classes, workshops and trainings, and hosts photoshoots, including the one organized by the WBJ for its 2020 40 Under Forty edition.

Markova’s professional career, spanning multiple countries, has included media consulting for international business publications and television news reporting in Dubai, UAE. In 2012, she spearheaded the web and social media presence of Hudson’s popular restaurant, Rail Trail Flatbread Company, co-owned by Markova’s spouse, Karim El-Gamal. El-Gamal is also a recipient of WBJ’s 40 Under Forty award this year.

Prior to opening Earth & Aerial Yoga, Markova served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). As the first person to hold this role, Markova designed and launched MEDC’s new website, created a brewpub campaign that brought two breweries to the city’s downtown, and produced a promotional video for the city that won an International Economic Development Council award in 2018.

“Lora Markova has left an indelible mark across many industries throughout her career. Two things are abundantly clear about her professional life: She follows her passion, and she excels at whatever she sets her mind to,” said WBJ Editor, Brad Kane. “We are lucky to have her in the Central Massachusetts business community, and WBJ’s 40 Under Forty is made all the better with her inclusion this year.”

“As a continent-hopper for many years, I’m thrilled that I have made an impact on my new home and the MetroWest community, and have found my niche here among this innovative group of industry leaders,” said Markova. “Opening a yoga studio was a lifelong dream of mine, and I’m proud to be a part of the area’s increasing local business presence.”

WBJ will honor Markova during the twenty-first annual 40 Under Forty awards event, which will be held virtually on September 16th.
